Notre Dame, Ind. – Nine Irish rowers have been honored by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) as 2007 National Scholar Athletes. The nine rowers named as National Scholar Athletes are: senior Meghan Boyle (Pittsburgh, Pa.), sophomore Lauren Buck (Flint, Mich.), senior Shannon Cassel (Bettendorf, Iowa), sophomore Erica Copeland (Marietta, Ga.), senior Jessica Guzik (Annandale, Va.), sophomore Sarah Keithley (Austin, Texas), junior Mary Kate McNamara (North Potomac, Md.), sophomore Laura Petnuch (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and sophomore Christine Trezza (Staten Island, N.Y.).
The nine Notre Dame rowers named were the most ever for the Irish in single year.
Student-athletes selected were nominated by their institutions and must carry a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or higher. Each individual must be either a sophomore, junior or senior in terms of eligibility and must have rowed in either the varsity eight, second varsity eight or varsity boats in a minimum of 75 percent of the team’s regattas.
