HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – The Niagara Purples Eagles cruised past Colgate, 5-1, Sunday in the third-place game of the Shillelagh Tournament at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill.

Niagara (4-11-2) was the first to score as David Ross found the back of the net off an assist from Danny Weiss with 1:36 left in the first period. The Purple Eagles increased their lead to 2-0 when Ryan Olidis scored from Chris Moran and Egor Mironov with 38 seconds left in the stanza.

Colgate (7-8-4) jumped on the board with 6:04 left in the second period after an unassisted goal from Brian Day.

The Purple Eagles answered quickly with Mironov scoring two more in the second frame. Mironov landed a goal off assists from Weiss and Olidis with 4:26 left, before scoring on feeds from Moran and Tyler Gotto with 37 seconds left to bring the Niagara lead to 4-1.

The scoring continued in the third period for Niagara as Marc Zanette found the back of the net with assists from Jason Beattie and Giancarlo Iuorio with 9:04 left to give the Purple Eagles a 5-1 lead.

Goaltender Chris Noonan notched 36 saves for the Purple Eagles, while Colgate’s Charles Long added 36 saves, as well.
