#12/10 Notre Dame Hosts Marquette In Midweek Matchup

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — No. 12/10 Notre Dame returns home for its final homestand of the regular season. The Irish host Marquette in a non-conference midweek matchup at 4 p.m. ET Wednesday, April 10 at Arlotta Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra and will be available to stream via the WatchESPN app or on WatchESPN.com.

THE 300 CLUB

  • Baumer Family Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Kevin Corrigan is one of just four active Division I coaches to reach the 300-win mark.
  • Corrigan has an overall record of 309-157 in his 33 seasons of coaching.
  • The head coach is 299-143 in his 31 seasons at Notre Dame and is one win away from becoming just the third coach in Division I history to reach the 300-win milestone.
  • Corrigan is the longest tenured men’s lacrosse coach at the DI level.

THE MARQUETTE SERIES

  • Wednesday will be the eighth meeting between Notre Dame and Marquette. The Irish have not lost in the matchup, as Notre Dame has a perfect 7-0 record in the series. 
  • Last season’s matchup was a thriller in Milwaukee, as Notre Dame escaped with a 7-6 victory. The Irish scored twice in the final minute to come back and win by one.
  • The Irish have squared off against the Golden Eagles in each of the last six seasons.
  • Wednesday marks the fifth time the Irish will play at Marquette. 

MORIN’S CAREER DAY

  • Connor Morin turned in the best performance of his career at Duke, scoring four points and adding two assists.
  • The six points and four goals are career highs for the sophomore and the two assists tie a personal best.
  • Morin’s six-point performance is tied for the most points in a game by an Irish player this season, joining Bryan Costabile’s six-point outburst in the season-opening victory over Detroit Mercy.
  • Morin has 24 points through nine games off 16 goals and eight assists.

NOTRE DAME VS. TOP-10 TEAMS

  • Notre Dame is 37-29 against teams ranked in the top 10 in the USILA Coaches Poll since the start of the 2008 season, including a mark of 3-1 in 2019.
  • The Irish are 14-13 since 2012 against teams ranked in the top five in the USILA Coaches Poll.
  • Notre Dame has three wins this season against teams ranked in the top 10 at the time of the game, defeating No. 2 Maryland (3/3/19), No. 8 Denver (3/9/19) and No. 8 Syracuse (3/30/19).

IRISH IN THE ACC

  • The Irish have a combined record of 13-11 in its six seasons of ACC regular season play and 18-14 when ACC Championship games are included.
  • Notre Dame has won two ACC Championship titles in its five seasons in the league, winning the 2014 and 2018 championships.
  • The Irish went a perfect 4-0 in 2015 to win its first regular-season conference title and followed with a record of 3-1 in 2016 to claim a share of the regular-season championship.

COSTABILE COMES UP CLUTCH

  • Junior Byran Costabile scored a team-high five goals for the Irish in the 13-10 win over No. 8 Syracuse, including two big insurance scores in the fourth quarter.
  • Costabile earned ACC Offensive Player of the Week (4/1/19) honors for his performance following the Syracuse game.
  • The midfielder leads the team in goals on the season with 22 and has 69 goals in his career.

JACKOBOICE STEPPING UP

  • In his first season as a starter, midfielder Wheaton Jackoboice has come on strong in the last month, playing his best lacrosse of his career over the last six games.
  • The midfielder has posted at least three points in five of his last six outings, including career-high four-point outputs (2G, 2A) against Virginia and Syracuse.
  • Jackoboice has 21 points on the season off 11 goals and a team-high 10 assists.

SENSATIONAL SECOND QUARTERS

  • The Irish have played their best lacrosse this season in second quarters, outscoring opponents 35-16 over the eight games.
  • Notre Dame has allowed just one goal apiece in six of nine second stanzas this season.
  • The team’s best second-quarter performance came at No. 11 Virginia, outscoring the Cavaliers 6-1. 

THE X-FACTOR

  • Junior FOGO Charlie Leonard turned in one of the best performances at the X in program history against Michigan, winning 20-of-24 face-offs.
  • Leonard won the majority of the face-offs cleanly, recording a career-high 16 ground balls against the Wolverines.
  • The junior has won 110-of-205 face-offs (53.7%) on the season as the primary FOGO for the Irish and has scored four goals.

BALANCED ATTACK

  • The Irish have five players with 20 or more points entering Wednesday’s game.
  • Senior attackman Brendan Gleason (15G, 9A) and junior Bryan Costabile (22G, 3A) lead the team in points. 
  • Sophomore attackman Connor Morin (16G, 8A)  is just behind with 24 points.
  • Sophomore Wheaton Jackoboice (11G, 10A) leads the Irish in assists, while junior Brian Willetts (17G, 3A) rounds out the attack.
  • Eight Notre Dame players have recorded the first goals of their career in 2019 (Connor Morin, Griffin Westlin, Charlie Leonard, Wheaton Jackoboice, Quinn McCahon, Mo Mirer, John Hallenbeck and Stephen Chase).
