Softball Run Rules Boston College, 11-0

NOTRE DAME, Indiana — Katie Marino and MK Bonamy each crushed three-run home runs, while Melissa Rochford and Ellie Richards added two-run doubles to lead Notre Dame to an 11-0 five-inning rout of Boston College Friday night at Melissa Cook Stadium. The Fighting Irish improved to 22-12 and 5-5 in the ACC, while the Eagles drop to 11-21 and 3-7.

Payton Tidd picked up the victory with 4.0 scoreless innings of work. She yielded just one hit and struck out one. Tidd upped her record to 13-5 on the season. Morgan Ryan tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

Key Innings

B1 | Notre Dame took advantage of a key Boston College defensive miscue to grab a 3-0 lead. Ali Wester opened the game with a single and moved into scoring position on Marino’s ground out. After Cait Brooks walked, Abby Sweet pulled a pitch down the third-base line that rolled right through the wickets of Eagles’ third baseman Gianna Boccagno. Wester cruised home on the error. Rochford pushed the lead to 3-0 with a two-run double to right centerfield.

B3 | Marino led off the frame with a single and moved into scoring position on a ground out. Sweet was plunked with a pitch to give Notre Dame runners on first and second. Marino and Sweet then executed a perfect double steal. After Rochford grounded out, Bonamy doubled the Irish lead to 6-0 with a mammoth home run to straightaway centerfield.
