GET TO KNOW THE FRESHMEN The 2019 Notre Dame men's lacrosse FRESHMAn class features 11 players from eight different states

The 2019 Notre Dame men's lacrosse freshman class features eight student-athletes that received four or five star rankings from Inside Lacrosse. Six players made the Inside Lacrosse Power 100 list.

HEAD COACH KEVIN CORRIGAN ON THE FRESHMAN CLASS

"I think the best thing about the class is we have guys at every position, even some of the role positions, that we think will be able to play for us in time if not right away. JUNIOR ALMEIDA

"Junior is coming off an injury that has affected him last year and throughout the fall. He is a work in progress but we like what we have in him. Junior will play a lot of lacrosse for us." - Head Coach Kevin Corrigan

Led Lincoln Sudbury to three state lacrosse titles.
Named a captain of the football and lacrosse teams.
Was a three-sport athlete, lettering in lacrosse, football and wrestling.
Son of Donald and Marta Wright
Has a brother (Bryan) who plays rugby at Ithaca College and a sister (Kethleen).

JOSE BOYER

"Jose has a savviness about him that you can't teach. He has an ability to make plays. He is having to discipline his game a little bit because of what he could do at the previous level. I think eventually he will be able to be that disruptor who does a lot of things but it is tough to come in and do that right away. He is tempering his game but at the same time he is on the field right now and helping us right now. I think he is going to get better and better every week." - Head Coach Kevin Corrigan

Two-time high school All-American in 2016 and 2017.
Played on the Under Armour All-America North Senior Team.
Named to the New England Under Armour All-America Team.
Led Yorktown to a state championship in 2014.
Earned the Rhodes Cup at Deerfield Academy.
Three-sport athlete, lettering in lacrosse, football and track & field.
Holds Yorktown High School record for career touchdown passes, and career passing yards.
Named Yorktown High School Male Student Athlete of the Year.
Four-time team MVP at Yorktown in track & field.
Team captain of both the lacrosse and football teams.
Member of the National Honor Society and achieved Principal's List status all four years at Yorktown.
Volunteered as a mentor and tutor throughout high school and was a member of the Special Olympics.
Son of Joseph and Marianne Boyer. His father, Joseph, played running back at Fordham and his mother, Marianne, was a team captain on the swim team at Holy Cross.
Has a brother (Keith) and a sister (Kaila).

QUENTIN BUCHMAN

"Quentin is another guy coming off of injury. He still is not 100 percent and just recently started practicing. We have seen enough in the glimpses we have seen to know that he is a talented offensive player. We are excited what he is going to be able to do once he gets his body right." - Head Coach Kevin Corrigan

Two-time Under Armour All-American, being selected to Team West during his junior and senior seasons.
Named to Under Armour All-American Senior Team.
Rated 3rd in Inside Lacrosse Power 100 Freshman Rankings
Finished his career at Santa Margarita Catholic High School with 227 goals and 78 assists for 305 points.
Three-time team captain for high school lacrosse team.
Selected as team MVP during junior and senior seasons.
Two-sport athlete lettering in football and lacrosse.
Played club lacrosse with West Coast Starz and 212 Select.
Volunteered with an organization that provided service for Marines while at home and deployed.
Son of Jeff and Theresa Buchman.

JUSTIN CHENG

"Justin is a guy that has come on in the last month or so. He's a guy who relied on his instincts, aggressiveness and his ability to make plays and when you get to this level all of that is harder to do until you get your feet under you and get a good understanding of what is going on out on the field. Justin is a smart player, who works hard, and he is just really starting to show us now what he is capable of. Justin is going to play a lot of lacrosse for us." Head Coach Kevin Corrigan

US Lacrosse and Adrenaline All-American selection in 2018.
Three-time team captain and four-time MVP of lacrosse team at Arnold O. Beckman High School.
Two-sport athlete at Beckman High School, playing lacrosse and football.
Three-time Pacific Coast League MVP and four-time First Team All-Pacific Coast League selection.
Racked up 31 goals and 411 ground balls while playing LSM/Defense over four-year career.
Beckman High School 2018 Male Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Played club lacrosse with West Coast Starz and Adrenaline Tropics.
Named a US Lacrosse Academic All-American and a Beckman Scholar Athlete while earning Principal's Honor Roll status all four years.
Served as the National League of Young Men Class President.
Son of Joe and Erice Cheng.
Has a brother (Jason) and sister (Elyssa).

GRIFFIN HAWTHORNE

"Griffin is another kid that has been banged up. But Griffin is another guy that comes from a really solid program. He is a smart player and catching up to the speed of the game at this level. He has a lot of potential." - Head Coach Kevin Corrigan

Named team captain for senior season at Massapequa High School
Two sport athlete at Massapequa HS, lettering in lacrosse and football.
Two-time Newsday Top 25 Players to Watch on Long Island selection.
Played club lacrosse for the Long Island Express.
Volunteered with Patient Airlift Services office.
Member of National Honor Society, Business and Marketing National Honor Society and an eight-time honor roll selection.
Son of Michael and Joanne Hawthorne. Father, Michael, played lacrosse at Yale.
Has a brother (Carter), who plays lacrosse at Wesleyan University, and a sister (Bailey).

QUINN McCAHON

"Quinn is as complete a midfielder as you can get at that age. He can do a little bit of everything. I don't think at the moment he is great at any one thing yet but I think its great that a kid at his age can already do everything well. That puts him in a position to help us right away and also in a position to grow as a player over the next four years." - Head Coach Kevin Corrigan

Three-time All-Inter-AC League selection.
Named a team captain during senior season at Malvern Prep.
Three-sport athlete at Malvern Prep, lettering in lacrosse, football and basketball.
Finished career with 86 goals and 91 assists.
Played club lacrosse with Big 4 HHH
Earned Distinguished Honors all four years of high school and was the Father's Club Science Award recipient.
Volunteered at Philadelphia Shelter for the Homeless and did a two-week service project to Peru to teach English to orphans and worked on the orphanage.
Son of Joseph and Jennifer McCahon. Father, Joseph, played basketball at Salisbury University and mother, Jennifer, played field hockey at Philadelphia University.
Has a brother (Joe) and two sisters (Anna and Caroline). Anna plays soccer at Yale.

MARK McGINLEY

"Mark is having a typical freshman year as in he is learning and adjusting to the college game. You can see him make progress every week and I think it is not going to be too long until Mark is competing for playing time for us." Head Coach Kevin Corrigan

Two-time US Lacrosse All-American.
Named 2018 Ohio Player fo the Year and Attackman of the Year.
Two-time team captain and team MVP at Chagrin Fall High School.
Finished high school career with 172 goals and 109 assists.
Selected as 2018 News-Herald Player of the Year and Adam S. Hamilton NOSLCA Player of the Year.
Played club lacrosse with Burning River Lacrosse.
Four-time Honor Roll student and two-time High Honor Roll student.
Member of Student Athlete Advisory Council.
Son of Mark and Shelley McGinley. Father, Mark, played football at UMass Amherst.
Has one brother (Hayes), who plays lacrosse at Saint Joseph's and one sister (Megan), who plays volleyball at Clemson.

JAKE MOSS

"Jake has been hurt and will not play for us this season. We need to get him well. We know from recruiting him that he is a terrific athlete and can play multiple positions for us but we need to get him healthy first." - Head Coach Kevin Corrigan

Two-time member of the New Jersey Under Armour Team, which won the tournament in 2016.
Selected as Senior Year USILA All-American.
Led The Pingry School to three state championships.
Was the captain and leader of the all-time winningest class in The Pingry School history.
Lettered in lacrosse and football at The Pingry School.
Led The Pingry School in rushing yards and tackles in two seasons.
Played club lacrosse with Leading Edge.
Captain of the undefeated 2017 Leading Edge team that won six tournaments.
Selected as Maverick Showtime All-Star.
Four-time High Honor Roll student and the Cipriano Scholar Athlete Award recipient.
Volunteered in a program to feed the homeless in New York City.
Son of Steve and Suzanne Moss. Father, Steve, played lacrosse at Fairleigh Dickinson.
Has two sisters (Amanda and Lindsey). Amanda played lacrosse at Bryant.

Set school records for career save percentage (.574) and single-season save percentage (.688) at Cannon School.
Letterwinner in lacrosse, football and wrestling, totaling 11 letters.
Selected as Most Outstanding Male Athlete during senior year at Cannon School.
Two-time state finalist in wrestling.
Earned the Cannon School Athletic Leadership Award.
Played club lacrosse with Top Tier.
Graduated Cum Laude and was a member of Spanish Honors Society and English Honors Society in high school.
Finished school as an AP Scholar with Distinction.
Volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and was on the Cannon School Athletic Leadership Council.
Son of Chris and Joanie Nelson. Father, Chris, played lacrosse at Notre Dame.
Has two brothers (Jack and Conor) and two sisters (Hannah and Kate).
Father (Chris Nelson, '92), sister (Hannah Nelson, '21), aunt (Bridget Nelson, '96), grandfather (John Nelson ('65) and great grandfather (John Nelson, '30) are all Notre Dame alums.

Led all players from the state of New Jersey in assists (70) in 2018.
Honored as 2018 NJILCA Attackman of the Year.
Ranked No. 19 in the 2018 Inside Lacrosse Power 100.
Finished career at Seton Hall Preparatory with a school record 348 points off 186 goals and 162 assists.
Posted a program record 142 points during senior season off 72 goals and 70 assists.
Played club lacrosse with Leading Edge and Building Blocks Lacrosse.
Honor Roll student.
Volunteered at various organizations, including Wounded Warrior, Feed the Need, Meals on Wheels and Kairos.
Son of Ken and Kimberly Westlin.
