Irish Fall At No. 11 NC State, 5-2

RALEIGH, North Carolina — The Notre Dame women’s tennis team captured the doubles point at 11th-ranked NC State, but the host Wolfpack rallied in singles to take a 5-2 victory over the Irish on Sunday afternoon.

How It Happened

The first doubles match went to NC State, as the 10th-ranked duo of Anna Rogers and Alana Smith defeated Brooke Broda and Zoe Spence, 6-3. Notre Dame then won a 7-5 battle on court two, with Bess Waldram and Cameron Corse winning over Liz Norman and Bianca Moldovan. Things were just as tight on the decisive court three, where Zoe Taylor and Ally Bojczuk used a 7-3 tiebreaker to defeat Adriana Reami and Claudi Wiktorin, 7-6.

In singles action, Alana Smith tied the score with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Spence. The Wolfpack then took a 2-1 lead thanks to a three-set victory at the top of the lineup where No. 25 Rogers topped Bojczuk, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. The hosts then moved within a point of victory thanks to Norman’s 1-6, 7-5, 6-0 win over Waldram on court four.

NC State clinched the victory on court three, with Reami winning in three sets over Corse (6-1, 1-6, 7-5). NC State also won on court five, where Moldovan defeated Broda in a tight two-set match, 7-6 (7), 7-6 (7). Taylor got the Irish their second point of the day with a win on court six, 6-1, 6-7 and a 10-6 win in a super-tiebreaker played in lieu of the third set because the team score had been decided.
