Irish Conclude Split Weekend With Personal Bests

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame track and field team concluded a hot  weekend as four individuals earned all-time top-10 times, multiple personal bests were set and outdoor collegiate debuts were made.

Raleigh Relays
Maddy Denner, the freshman transfer, made her outdoor debut for the Irish as she claimed second in her 5K heat with a time of 16:40.19 to start the team off in North Carolina. She was followed up shortly after by the men’s 5K as Brendan Fraser clocked in a time of 14:37.77 and fifth overall.

The Irish women finished two in the top-15 of the 1500m, as Jackie Gaughan made her outdoor racing start, taking ninth with a time of 4:30.15. AnnaSophia Keller came in at 4:32.31 for 13th overall.

Anna Fischer etched her name in the records book with the seventh best all-time Notre Dame finish in the women’s 3K steeplechase, crossing the line in 10:50.02.

Three Irish men set career bests in the 3K steeplechase, as Tony Williams (15th, 9:04.85), Matthew Carmody (27th, 9:12.87) and Dustin Macuiba (40th, 9:19.82) all competed.

As the sun began to set in North Carolina, Rachel DaDamio ran to a 4:24.01 finish in the later heat of the 1500m run and earned herself an 18th place finish.

Andrew Alexander made his season debut with a personal best finish in the 5K. Shaving 13 seconds off his career best, Alexander crossed the line in 14:06.66.

The Irish continued to write their name in history as Kevin Salvano and Danny Kilrea both finished in Notre Dame’s program all-time top-10 for the 10K. Salvano recorded a ninth place finish in 28:54.46 with Kilrea right behind him in 10th and a time of 28:55.25.

Stanford Invitational
The men’s 1500m run featured two Irish individuals take fifth in their heat as Andrew Del Vecchio kicked things off in California with a 3:54.96 finish in the race. Dylan Jacobs, who opened his outdoor season in the later heat, finished fifth with a career best time of 3:48.10.

Brian Griffith also competed in the 1500m run, finishing 10th in his heat with a personal best time of 3:56.67.

Jess Harris competed in her first race since the fall cross country season, running a 2:04.84 in the 800m to secure second overall. Erin Sullivan also represented the women in the event, crossing the line in 2:11.00.

Yared Nuguse, coming off a recent indoor national championship, won the 800m men’s title at the Stanford Invitational, finishing in 1:48.29 and recorded the ninth-best time in program history.
