GREENSBORO, N.C. — The University of Notre Dame men’s swim team concluded their run at the Atlantic Coast Conference championships with a final tally of 687 points for sixth place overall.
The final session of the weekend was highlighted by Joshua Bottelberghe’s bronze medal in the 200 breast as he touched the wall in 1:53.90.
Two men represented the Irish in the championship (A) final during the evening session including Bottelberghe and Zach Yeadon in the 1650 free.
The first event of the evening finals featured Yeadon and Sadler McKeen competing for the ACC title in the 1650 free. Yeadon finished fourth overall with a time of 14:44.55 while McKeen posted a final time of 15:18.17.
Swimming for a second time Saturday, four members of the team competed in the 200 back finals which saw Jack Montesi lead the way with his 11th place finish, touching the wall in 1:43.26. Will Cumberland also competed in the consolation heat, finishing 13th with a time of 1:44.27. Joseph Turk (18th, 1:44.40) and Nick Milikich (23rd, 1:47.00) also qualified for the finals during the prelim session Saturday morning, competing in the C final.
Tabahn Afrik posted a 43.32 second finish in the 100 fly as he took 16th in the event during the evening finals.
The first Irish man to make the podium at the conference meet was Bottelberghe as he claimed bronze in the 200 breast with a time of 1:53.90. Steven She also competed, finishing second in the C final and 18th overall when he turned in a time of 1:58.23.
Five men swam for the Irish in the final individual race of the meet, the 200 fly. Qualifying for the consolation final through the morning session, Aaron Schultz took 11th overall with a time of 1:43.61. Matt Grauslys finished shortly behind, touching the wall in 1:43.71 and in 12th place. The Irish boasted three of the top-four finishes in the C final as Aaron Schultz posted the top time of 1:43.75 (17th overall), Max Miranda got second in the heat in 1:44.25 (18th) and Marci Barta claimed fourth in 1:45.16 (20th).
The final event of the meet saw the Irish finish ninth in the 400 free relay as Tabahn Afrik, Aaron Schultz, Zach Smith and Matt Grauslys combined for a time of 2:55.47. Afrik led the team off with a 44.05 second finish before Schultz swam a 42.94 second split. Smith finished the third leg of the race in 43.97 while Grauslys anchored the team in 44.51 seconds for the final touch.

The Irish will have the next two weeks off to prepare for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships later in March.
