Aldave & Giacolone Sweep ACC Weekly Honors

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Sophomore midfielder Andie Aldave and senior goaltender Samantha Giacolone have swept the ACC’s weekly awards, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon (March 19).

Aldave earns ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors after a five-point (3G, 2A) effort in Notre Dame’s 10-9 win at Virginia last Saturday. Aldave completed her hat trick against the Cavaliers with the game-winning goal with just 1:30 remaining in regulation.

Last Wednesday, Aldave also helped the Irish earn a 15-4 win at VCU by recording a goal, an assist and 12 draw controls.

In eight contests this season, Aldave has recorded 32 points (20G, 12A) and a team-high 64 draw controls. Entering play this week, she ranks fifth in the nation and second in the ACC with an average of eight draw controls per game.

Giacolone has been named the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Week after combining for 17 saves in last week’s Irish victories at VCU and Virginia. Seven of Giacolone’s 10 saves against Virginia came in the first half of play, which buoyed the Irish defense and allowed Notre Dame to hold a 4-2 halftime lead.

After a seven-save performance at VCU, Giacolone became the second goaltender in Irish history to reach the 500 career saves mark. With 511 career stops, Giacolone currently stands just 17 saves behind Ellie Hilling for the most in program history.

Entering play this week, Giacolone leads the nation with a goals-against average of 5.67 and tops the ACC with a save percentage of .537, which also ranks fifth in the NCAA.
