Irish Fall To No. 22 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Florida — The No. 42 Notre Dame women’s tennis team capped its 2019 spring break trip with a 6-1 setback at No. 22 Florida State on Sunday afternoon. The Irish won the doubles point before the Seminoles clinched the match in singles play.

How It Happened

Notre Dame’s duo of Bess Waldram and Brooke Broda scored a 6-2 win on court two over FSU’s Ariana Rahmanparast and Carla Touly before the hosts won at court three, where Petra Hule and Andrea Garcia defeated Ally Bojczuk and Zoe Taylor, 6-2. The Irish took home the doubles point with a 6-2 victory at the top of the lineup by Cameron Corse and Zoe Spence over Ana Oparenovic and Emmanuelle Salas.

Singles action belonged to the hosts, however. First came Oparenovic, with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Waldram at court four. Hule put the Seminoles ahead for good with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Rachel Chong at five singles. Garcia secured a 6-1, 6-2 victory at court six over Mave Koscielski to make it 3-1, before the match was clinched on court two when Salas defeated Bojczuk, 6-4, 7-5.

Remaining action saw Touly (ITA No. 30) defeat Spence (ITA No. 58) in a tightly contested, two-set match, 7-6, 7-5. The final match at three singles went to a third-set super-tiebreak, with Nandini Das (ITA No. 109) winning over Corse, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8.

Match Notes

  • Bojczuk lost for just the second time this season at two singles, where she is now 9-2.
  • Corse and Spence improved to 2-1 as doubles partners in ACC play.
  • Waldram and Broda are 4-2 as doubles partners this spring.
