Irish Add To NCAA Invites At Diving Zones

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Following a successful weekend of diving at the NCAA Diving Zone C Championships, three divers will join the Irish women at next week’s NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Austin, Texas. Annie Wiese, Erin Isola and Kelly Straub all qualified to compete again, finishing in the top-eight at the diving zone meet.

Annie Wiese punched the first diving ticket for Notre Dame, finishing eighth in the 3-meter competition Thursday evening, totaling 569.50 points through the first day. 

Erin Isola and Kelly Straub will both represent the Irish in the 1-meter potion of next week’s champion ships after finishing fourth and sixth, respectively. Isola, who qualified for the finals with her eighth place finish in the prelims, tallied 561.45 points on Friday to secure her spot at NCAAs and fourth at Zones. Straub claimed sixth in the 1-meter finals with 553.40 points.

Claire Andrews also competed for the women, with a weekend-best 12th place finish in the 3-meter prelims to earn a spot in the finals with 276.80 points. She finished 18th in the evening finals, boasting 532.55 points. 

The Irish men were represented by Austin Flaute who qualified for the men’s 3-meter finals following his 13th place finish during the preliminary portion Friday morning. He concluded the day with 671.10 points and 13th overall.

The three divers to qualify for the NCAA Championships will join the 12 Irish women already headed to Austin, Texas for the annual meet. Adding three invites to their resume, the team had a record 11 individuals invited to the national meet while four others will compete in a series of relay events.

The meet gets underway on Wednesday evening at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
