NOTRE DAME, Ind. — For the second consecutive season, University of Notre Dame goaltender Cale Morris has been named one of 10 semifinalists for the Mike Richter Award, which annually honors the most outstanding goaltender in NCAA Division I men’s hockey. Last season, Morris went on to earn the award.

Last weekend, Morris posted the first two playoff shutouts of his career to lead the Irish to a Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal sweep of Michigan State (March 8-9). Morris made 27 saves in the 1-0 game one win and followed with 28 saves in Notre Dame’s 2-0 game two victory. Morris was then named the NCAA’s First Star of the Week for his efforts (March 12).

On the season, Morris has a 2.23 goals-against average and .929 save percentage to go along with a 16-12-3 record and four shutouts. His save percentage ranks sixth in the country. He also has 890 saves on the season, which ranks third among the 10 semifinalists.

A 2018 All-American and Mike Richter award winner, Morris now has a .937 career save percentage and a 2.08 goal-against average to go along with a 43-20-4 record. In eight career playoff games (Big Ten and NCAA), the Larkspur, Colorado native is 7-1-0 with a 1.02 goals-against average and a .969 save percentage. 

Let’s Play Hockey and the Herb Brooks Foundation will announce five finalists for the award on Thursday, March 28, with the winner presented on Friday, April 12 at the 2019 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four in Buffalo, N.Y.

Morris and the No. 2 seed Irish play host to No. 3 Minnesota in the Big Ten Tournament Semifinals on Saturday, March 16 at 7 p.m. at the Compton Family Ice Arena. The game will be televised by the Big Ten Network. For tickets: UND.com/BuyTickets.
