ORLANDO, Florida — The Notre Dame women’s tennis team opened its spring break trip to Florida with a 7-0 win over Iowa as part of the USTA Collegiate Series in Orlando on Tuesday. The Irish improved to 10-5 on the year while the Hawkeyes dropped to 8-5.
The match was part of the USTA Collegiate Series, played at the National Campus in Orlando, and utilized PlaySight technology, enabling advanced data capturing and line reviews.
How It Happened
The Irish doubles team of Ally Bojczuk and Zoe Taylor scored the first victory of the day at three doubles, winning 6-2 over Iowa’s Adorabol Huckleby and Danielle Bauers. Notre Dame then clinched the first point of the day with a 7-5 win on court two as Bess Waldram and Brooke Broda defeated Sophie Clark and Ashleigh Jacobs.
Singles action opened as Waldram scored a straight-set win over Jacobs (6-3, 7-5) to give Notre Dame a 2-0. The lead grew to 3-0 on court six with Taylor defeating Huckleby, 6-2, 6-4. The team score was clinched on court three with Corse’s 6-1, 6-3 decision over Clark.
Notre Dame then won the final three matches of the day, with Bojcuk defeating Samantha Mannix at court three (6-0, 7-6), Broda winning over Michelle Bacalla on court five (6-4, 4-6, 10-8) and Spence taking a three set win over Elise van Heuvelen (2-6, 6-2, 6-4).
