Irish Win Eighth Straight

BOCA RATON, Fla. — The University of Notre Dame softball team ran its winning streak to eight games Tuesday, collecting a 6-1 victory over Florida Atlantic in the final game of the FAU/FIU Parents’ Weekend Tournament at the FAU Softball Complex.

Cait Brooks recorded a two-home run game for the second straight outing, lifting her tournament average to .467 (7-for-15) with five home runs and 10 RBI. She now owns a team-best nine home runs and 24 RBI.

Starter Alexis Holloway (7-4) allowed just one run on three hits and three strikeouts in four innings of work. Reliever Morgan Ryan spun three innings of scoreless softball, giving up just one hit with four strikeouts.

In addition to Brooks’ offensive effort, Katie Marino and Alexis Bazos also drove runs in for the Irish.

Key Innings

Top 3: The Irish got on the board when an Bazos single plated Quinn Biggio, who walked to open the inning. Two batters later, Marino doubled to bring in Emma Clark (pinch running for Bazos) and Ali Wester. On the next pitch, Brooks blasted a two-run homer for her eighth of the season, making it a five-run inning for the Irish.

Bottom 4: Holloway and the Irish worked out of a jam as three Panthers reached base on a walk, hit and error, but allowed just one run to cross while stranding two baserunners to preserve a four-run lead.

Top 5: Brooks knocked her second home run of the game and fourth in two games to extend the lead to 6-1 in favor of the Irish.

Bottom 7: Despite issuing two walks, Ryan worked out of a bases-loaded situation with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, stranding three runners with a groundout to third to end the game.
