IRISH TO FACE LOUISVILLE IN SECOND ROUND OF THE ACC CHAMPIONSHIP

The University of Notre Dame men’s basketball team (14-18) has advance to the second round of the ACC Championship to face Louisville (19-12, 10-8) in the second round of the tournament on Wednesday, March 13, at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

NOTRE DAME vs. LOUISVILLE – BY THE NUMBERS

2

Only two players in the nation have scored 430+ points, grabbed 330+ rebounds, connected on 30+ three-point field goals and have 40+ assists – junior John Mooney and South Dakota State’s Mike Daum.

6

With 358 rebounds this season – John Mooney is now fourth on the single-season rebound total list during the Mike Brey era (since 2000-01). He is just four rebounds behind Bonzie Colson (362) in third place.

8

Junior Juwan Durham contributed 12 points, five rebounds and four blocks off the bench on Tuesday against Georgia Tech. It was the eighth time this season Durham has blocked four or more shots and he is now sixth on the Notre Dame single-season block leaderboard with 62 this season. He is just the fourth Notre Dame player to block at least 60 shots in a season.

9

Notre Dame is 9-4 all-time in the ACC tournament, failing to win a tournament game just once (the team’s first season as a part of the league in 2013-14). The Irish won the 2015 ACC Championship and advanced to the 2017 ACC Championship game.

9.4

John Mooney pulled down 9.4 defensive rebounds in ACC play this season – since 1996-97 only Tim Duncan (10.6 in 1996-97) has eclipsed that mark and it is a full rebound 9.4 vs. 8.4 for the next highest (Luke Maye this season, Alvin Jones from GT in 2000-01 and Sean May from UNC in 2004-05).

12.6

John Mooney averaged 12.6 rebounds in conference play this season – a mark that led all major conference players – and was fourth in the country for all conference players.

20

John Mooney finished the win over Georgia Tech with 20 points and 10 rebounds, his fifth 20-point, 10-rebound game of the year. He becomes the sixth Notre Dame player to post 20 double-doubles in a season.

37

Freshman Nate Laszewski scored a career-high 23 points in the regular-season finale at Pittsburgh on Saturday, recording the first 20-point game of his career. He followed up with 14 points in the first 17 minutes of the ACC first-round victory over Georgia Tech before being under cut on a lay up and injuring his lower back. He will be a game-time decision for the second round game vs Louisville.

37 II

Freshman Dane Goodwin has scored in double-figures for the third consecutive game after his 15 points against Georgia Tech on Tuesday, compiling 37 points over the past three games. It his the first time in Goodwin’s young career he has hit double figures in three consecutive games.

52

Notre Dame scored 52 points in the first half of the victory over Georgia Tech on Tuesday – the most since they scored 57 against Jacksonville on Dec. 20, 2018. It is the sixth-most by a team in the ACC tournament over the first 20 minutes of a contest.

59

The Irish have been struck by the injury bug this season – losing 59 games from either full-time projected starters (senior Rex Pflueger 22 games, sophomore D.J. Harvey 3 games, junior T.J. Gibbs 1 game) or players who started multiple games this season (freshman Robby Carmody 23 games, junior Nikola Djogo 5 games, junior Juwan Durham 5 games). Save for Gibbs (who missed one game with the flu), all of the players listed above will not be available for the ACC tournament.

97

Due to a series of injuries, the Irish back court of junior T.J. Gibbs and freshman Prentiss Hubb have combined to play 97% of of a possible 640 minutes over the past seven games for the Irish. Gibbs (312) and Hubb (311) have combined for 623 minutes in the past eight games – while dishing out 66 assists.

IRISH HAVE SHORT BUT STRONG HISTORY IN THE ACC TOURNAMENT

Notre Dame is finishing its sixth season as a member of the ACC and has already compiled a distinguished resume at the league tournament. The Irish are 9-4 all-time in the championship competition, including the 2015 title (defeating both Duke and North Carolina in Greensboro, North Carolina) while also advancing to the 2017 championship game against Duke.
