2019 WLAX Captains

Buchanan, Casadonte & Proctor to Captain Irish in 2019

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Seniors Jenn Casadonte and Hannah Proctor and junior Savannah Buchanan will captain the Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team in 2019, the program announced today.

“We’re really excited to announce Jenn, Hannah and Savannah as our captains for the 2019 season,” said Irish head coach Christine Halfpenny. “All three exhibit the qualities required to positively impact our team’s culture and lead this team in a positive direction on-and-off the field.”

ABOUT BUCHANAN
Buchanan looks to build off a 2018 campaign in which she earned First Team IWLCA All-Region honors alongside All-ACC Second Team and All-Tournament Team accolades. Last season, the Baltimore, Maryland, native led the Irish with 27 assists while also racking up 67 draw controls, 38 ground balls and 27 goals.
Buchanan’s 67 draw controls are tied for third most in a single season in program history. She also ranks ninth in Irish history in career draw controls with 112.
Buchanan also came up big for the Irish in critical moments last season, scoring the game-winning goal in the final minute of a 10-9 win over Duke on April 15 and assisting the overtime winner in an 11-10 triumph over Syracuse on March 24.

ABOUT CASADONTE
A three-time ACC Academic Honor Roll honoree, Casadonte enters her senior season healthy after missing her junior and sophomore campaigns due to injury.
As a freshman in 2016, the Dix Hills, New York, native scored nine goals in 20 games, including three multi-goal efforts. She also picked up 12 ground balls, recorded 12 draw controls and caused five turnovers as a midfielder.

ABOUT PROCTOR
Last month, Proctor was tabbed an honorable mention All-American by Inside Lacrosse ahead of her senior season.

In 2018, Proctor started all 19 games on the back line for the Irish en route to earning Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association All West/Midwest Region Second Team honors. She was third among Irish defenders in ground balls (28) and caused turnovers (16).

The Radnor, Pennsylvania, native was also named a Second Team All-ACC All-Star.

The Irish open the 2019 campaign on Friday, February 8 with a road contest against Marquette. Notre Dame’s home opener falls two days later (Feb. 10) vs. Canisius inside Loftus Sports Center. For the complete 2019 schedule, click here.
