Eight Former Irish Players Head To NFL Combine

NOTRE DAME, Indiana — Eight former University of Notre Dame players will take part in the National Football League Scouting Combine, to be held February 26-March 4, 2019, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Offensive lineman Alex Bars, wide receiver Miles Boykin, linebacker Te’von Coney, cornerback Julian Love, tight end Alizé Mack, defensive lineman Jerry Tillery, linebacker Drue Tranquill and running back Dexter Williams have each received an invitation to the prestigious event.

Notre Dame NFL Combine Notes

  • Notre Dame’s eight participants in the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine ranked as the seventh-most in the nation behind Alabama (11), Clemson (11), Ohio State (10), Georgia (9), Washington (9) and Mississippi (9).

  • Notre Dame’s 52 combined participants in the last eight NFL Scouting Combines is over a 60-percent increase over the Irish output (32) over the previous eight NFL Combines (2004-11).

  • Notre Dame has had 52 combined participants in the 2012-19 NFL Scouting Combines. Only Alabama (86), LSU (69), Florida State (66), Ohio State (64), Florida (60), Clemson (54), Georgia (54) and USC (53) have combined for more in those eight years.

  • Notre Dame has had 46 combined participants in the 2013-19 NFL Scouting Combines. Only Alabama (77), LSU (61), Ohio State (60), Florida State (60), Florida (57) and Clemson (48) have combined for more in those seven years.

  • Eleven of Notre Dame’s 13 foes from 2018 have at least one participant in the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine. The 11 opponents have a combined 43 players participating in this year’s event (out of a possible 338 combine participants).

  • Twenty-three schools have at least six participants in the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine. Notre Dame played nine of those 23 schools between 2015-2018 a total of 17 times (Stanford five times, Boston College twice, Miami twice, NC State twice, Clemson twice, LSU once, Michigan once, Ohio State once, Georgia once).

  • Twenty-three schools have had at least 25 combined participants in the 2015-19 NFL Scouting Combines. Notre Dame played nine of them a total of 17 times between 2014-18 (Stanford four times, USC four times, Clemson twice, Miami twice, Ohio State once, LSU once, Florida State once, Georgia once, Michigan once)

  • Seven of those schools rank among the top 10 in terms of NFL Combine participants since 2012. LSU (69) and Florida State (66) rank second and third. Ohio State (64) is fourth, Clemson (54) and Georgia (54) are tied for sixth, USC (53) is eight and Miami (50) is 10th.
