NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Junior midfielder Savannah Buchanan and sophomore attacker Maddie Howe were each named to the 2019 Preseason All-ACC Team, the conference announced today (Feb. 6).
The Irish, ranked #20 in the IWLCA preseason poll, were also slotted No. 6 in the ACC preseason poll.
The Irish open the 2019 season this Friday (Feb. 8) at 2 p.m. local/3 p.m. ET on the road against Marquette before hosting their home opener on Sunday (Feb. 10) vs. Canisius at 1 p.m. All Notre Dame women’s lacrosse home contests can be attended free of admission.
ABOUT BUCHANAN
Position: Midfield
Class: Junior
Hometown: Baltimore, Md.
A 2018 IWLCA All West/Midwest Region First Team & Second Team All-ACC All-Star, Buchanan led the Irish with 27 assists while also racking up 67 draw controls and 27 goals last season. In 38 career contests, Buchanan has collected 46 goals and 72 points for the Irish. Buchanan’s efforts in 2018 also earned her 2018 ACC All-Tournament Team and 2018 ILWomen Midseason Honorable Mention All-American accolades.
ABOUT HOWE
Position: Attack
Class: Sophomore
Hometown: Fairport, N.Y.
Howe is coming off of a freshman campaign in which she led the Irish with 40 goals and 55 points in 19 contests. She combined with Aldie Aldave to be the first freshman duo in program history to score 30+ goals in a single season. Howe’s 55 points in 2018 also rank third all-time in school history for most points as a freshman. Howe’s efforts in the classroom last year also earned her ACC Academic Honor Roll accolades.
