IRISH ENTER FINAL WEEK OF REGULAR SEASON AT LOUISVILLE
The University of Notre Dame men’s basketball team (13-15, 3-12 ACC) begins the final week of the regular season, in which the Irish will play three games, at No. NR/24 Louisville (18-11, 9-7) on CBS Sunday afternoon (1:30 p.m. ET).
NOTRE DAME AT LOUISVILLE – BY THE NUMBERS
1 |
Junior John Mooney leads all major conference players in rebounds per game in league action with a 12.1 average. |
2 |
Just two points separate the Notre Dame – Louisville series since the Irish and Cardinals became conference opponents in 2005-06. Louisville leads the series 10-8 over that span (which includes seven overtime games) while Notre Dame leads in points scored 1,350 to 1,348. |
3 |
John Mooney is on pace to become the third Notre Dame player in the past four seasons to lead the ACC in rebounding in all games (currently at the top of the league with a 10.9 average). Zach Auguste (10.7, 2016) and Bonzie Colson (10.1, 2017) also led the ACC in rebounding. Should Mooney maintain his league-leading status, Notre Dame would become the first ACC program to have a player lead the league in rebounding three out of four seasons (and three out of six since ND joined the ACC) since Tim Duncan did it three straight years for Wake Forest from 1995-97. |
4 |
Freshman Prentiss Hubb is fourth in the country in playing time for a true freshman from a major conference team (see page 7 for more). |
8 |
Prentiss Hubb has become the eighth true freshman since 1972-73 to dish out 100 or more assists (Hubb has 107 entering the Louisville game) in a season (see page 7 for more). He joins Chris Thomas, Tory Jackson and Eric Atkins as the fourth Brey-era guard to reach 100 (or more) assists in their rookie season. |
9.6 |
With a 9.6 average, Notre Dame is fifth in the country in turnovers committed per game. |
14.0 |
Notre Dame is committing just 14.0 personal fouls per game – the second-lowest average in the country behind Loyola Chicago (13.8) and ahead of Siena (14.1). |
17 |
John Mooney leads the ACC (no other player has more than 11) and is tied for ninth in the country with 17 double-doubles (he is fourth in double-doubles among major conference players). He also paces the ACC in 10-rebound performances with 18 this season. |
76 |
Notre Dame is shooting .760 from the free throw line, good for 21st in the country, sixth among major conference teams and second in the ACC for 2018-19. Should the team average remain above .740, this would mark the fifth consecutive season the Irish would shoot over .740 from the charity stripe – including the NCAA-leading .800 in 2016-17 (2017-18 .758, 2015-16 .742, 2014-15, .742). |
107 |
Prentiss Hubb has 107 assists this season – one of 11 major conference true freshman to reach that mark. Hubb is 9th in the NCAA for true freshman assists, behind national leader James Akinjo from Georgetown. He also joins Duke’s Tre Jones (138) and R.J. Barrett (115), Pittsburgh’s Xavier Johnson (126) and North Carolina’s Coby White (112) as ACC rookies with 100 assists or more this season. |
200 |
John Mooney is the latest in a long line of juniors to make a significant leap in statistical performance during their third year in the Notre Dame program. He is on pace to become the ninth player to increase their scoring (among other statistics) 200 points or more during their junior season. See page 12 for a full breakdown. |
2,175 |
Minutes played by the Notre Dame freshman class (Robby Carmody, Chris Doherty, Dane Goodwin, Prentiss Hubb, Nate Laszewski) – the most for any rookie class in the Mike Brey era. It is the third-most at Notre Dame since freshmen became eligible in 1972-73. |
