GREENSBORO, N.C. — The University of Notre Dame swimming and diving team completed the final day of competition at the Atlantic Coast Conference Diving and Women’s Swimming Championships Saturday evening with a fourth place finish, totaling 909.50 points over the four day meet.

“What a great championship finish for our women,” Head Coach Mike Litzinger said. “Our first season the team finished in seventh place with 537.5 points. Tonight we broke into the top-four with 909.50 points, several medalists, 10 most likely NCAA invites, five Notre Dame records, and a very happy team. I am proud of our staff for preparing these ladies, proud of our seniors for seeing the vision, and very proud of this team.”

The fourth and final day was highlighted by a Notre Dame school record in the 200 fly when Nikki Smith touched the wall in 1:54.66. Her time earned her the ACC Runner-Up finish in the last individual event of the meet while Luciana Thomas finished sixth in the event with her finals time of 1:56.20.

“Nikki Smith definitely stole the show tonight with her second place finish in the 200 fly,” he added. “Her time of 1:54.66 is a new Notre Dame record by almost a second, and truly an elite swim on the national level.”
The Irish women ended the day with seven top-10 finishes, including six in individual events.
