GREENSBORO, N.C. — The third day of the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships featured a school record fall, a bronze medal in the 100 back and many great finishes by the women. Heading into the final day of competition, Notre Dame is fourth in the team standings with 624.50 points.

“Tonight our team firmly established itself in fourth place,” Head Coach Mike Litzinger said. “We had another great evening highlighted by some truly big performances. Cailey Grunhard got us started with a new Notre Dame record in the 100 Fly of 52.21. That time should earn her an NCAA invite in the coming weeks.”

Grunhard’s school record of 52.21 seconds came in the 100 fly C final while Nikki Smith finished seventh overall in the A final with a time of 52.50.

Luciana Thomas earned seventh in the 400 IM as she touched the wall in 4:11.50 for a career best and third all-time in program history.

The 200 free featured Abbie Dolan who finished fourth overall in 1:44.19 following her record breaking 200 free performance in last night’s 800 free relay.

The final individual race of the day featured two Irish women in Carly Quast and Bayley Stewart in the 100 back. Quast earned bronze in the event as she powered to the wall in 52.06 and a personal best time in her career with the Blue and Gold. Stewart finished 12th in the race with a sixth-best program time of 53.41 seconds.

In the diving well, Kelly Straub tallied 231.40 points for eighth overall in the platform diving competition.

The Irish concluded the third day with a fourth place finish in the 400 medley relay. Carly Quast, Meaghan O’Donnell, Cailey Grunhard and Abbie Dolan combined for a final time of 3:33.69, just three tenths of a second shy of the program record.

“I am very pleased with the way all of our women competed tonight,” Litzinger added. “They fought hard as a team, and the results showed it. Tomorrow is our strongest day and I expect that we will come out ready to go in the morning.”

Notre Dame concludes their run at the ACC DIving and Women’s Swimming Championships Saturday, February 23. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. followed by finals at 6 p.m. The final session of the day will be streamed live on the ACC Network and Watch ESPN app.
