THE RICHMOND SERIES
• Saturday will be the second meeting all-time between Notre Dame and Richmond. The Irish are 1-0 in the series.
• The Irish and Titans played last season on Feb. 24, as Notre Dame earned a 11-7 win.
• Brendan Gleason and Bryan Costabile combined to score five goals in last season’s win over Richmond.
COSTABILE’S CAREER NIGHT
• For the second straight season, midfielder Bryan Costabile turned in a career performance, tying his career high for goals in a match with five in the win over Detroit Mercy.
• Costabile has now scored a combined 10 goals over Notre Dame’s last two season openers, as he also scored five times in the 2018 win over Detroit Mercy.
ATTACKING OUTBURST
• The Irish attack put up 19 goals on the scoreboard in the season-opening win over Detroit Mercy.
• The 19 goals are the most the Irish have scored in a game since defeating Dartmouth 20-8 on Feb. 28, 2015.
• The 19 goals are the most the Irish have scored in a season opener since also scoring 19 to begin the 2014 season.
• The 13-goal win is the largest margin of victory in an opener since the team defeated Canisius by a score of 21-5 to start the 1993 campaign.
• Stephen Chase, Griffin Westlin (2), Charlie Leonard (2), Quinn McCahon, Connor Morin and Wheaton Jackoboice each scored the first goals of their careers against the Titans.
STIFLING DEFENSE
• Notre Dame’s dominating defense picked up right where it left off in the opener against Detroit Mercy. The Irish allowed just six goals against the Titans.
• Even more impressively, the Irish held Detroit Mercy scoreless for a stretch of 31:55 between the second and fourth quarters.
• The Irish allowed an average of 8.6 goals per game to rank ninth in the country in 2018, despite facing some of the most potent attacks at the DI level.
• Notre Dame held 10 of its 15 opponents to fewer than 10 goals in 2018.
• The Irish defense held Virginia (twice) and Duke to season lows for goals scored in a game last season.
• The Irish returned all three starting close defensemen from last season’s squad along with their goalkeeper.
THE 300 CLUB
• Baumer Family Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Kevin Corrigan is one of just four active Division I coaches to reach the 300-win mark.
• Corrigan has an overall record of 305-153 in his 32 seasons of coaching.
• The head coach is 295-139 in his 30 seasons at Notre Dame.
• Corrigan is the longest tenured men’s lacrosse coach at the DI level.
OWNING THE OPENERS
• Notre Dame is 32-7 all-time in season openers, including a 26-5 record in the Kevin Corrigan era.
• The Irish have won a program-record 17 straight season openers.
• Notre Dame opened the 2019 season with a 19-6 win over Detroit Mercy on February 16 in Loftus Sports Center.
• The Irish last dropped a season opener in 2002, a 10-9 overtime setback at home against Penn State.
• In home openers, the Irish are 35-4 in program history and 28-3 under Corrigan.
FANTASTIC FEBRUARYS FOR THE FIGHTING IRISH
• Notre Dame is 28-1 in its last 29 games played in February dating back to the 2006 season. Fighting Irish head coach Kevin Corrigan is 36-5 in the month of February during his Notre Dame tenure.
• Last season the Irish picked up a pair of wins in February, defeating Detroit Mercy (10-7) and Richmond (11-7) in home games.
