#11 Notre Dame Faces Challenge In #12 Columbia

CHICAGO, Ill. — The No. 11 Irish dropped a tight match to No. 12 Columbia in the second round of the ITA National Indoor Championships Saturday afternoon in Chicago.

By a final score of 4-2, the Lions earned the doubles point as well as many close singles matches to defeat the Irish.

Doubles
The Irish started the day with doubles, looking to clinch the point heading into singles. Columbia came out firing though and claimed two sets 6-2 to earn the first point of the day.

Singles
Looking to bounce back after doubles, No. 11 Notre Dame took the courts in the singles with a slight change in the lineup.

For the second match in a row, Axel Nefve tallied the first point for the Irish, defeating his Lions opponent Tim Wang, 6-2, 6-1, to cut the lead in half.

Richard Ciamarra tied it up shortly after when he won his match by a pair of 6-4 set victories over Victor Pham. Guillermo Cabrera also claimed the first set of his match after a tiebreak of 7-6(5).

Attempting to force a third set, Alex Lebedev and Jack Lin left it all out on the court, with the Lions taking the tiebreak 7-6(6) and fourth point to complete the day.
