NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its women’s soccer All-Academic Team on Thursday, and two University of Notre Dame student-athletes were selected to the team. Notre Dame’s Sabrina Flores and Jennifer Westendorf were recognized for their academic standing as well as their performance on the field.
ACC All-Academic Team members must obtain a 3.0 GPA in the previous semester and own a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in their academic careers. Athletic achievements during the 2018 season also are considered.
Flores started all 18 games in her final season with the Irish. She tied Westendorf for the team lead with five assists and also tallied one goal and seven points on the season. Flores and Westendorf lead the second half comeback in the win over Loyola Chicago. Flores scored the equalizer in the 76th minute off the Westendorf assist. Two minutes later, Flores assisted Westendorf on the game-winner.
The Livingston, N.J. native started 74 games in her four years with the Irish. Earlier this month, Flores was selected in the National Women’s Soccer League Draft by Sky Blue F.C. Flores graduated last May with a degree in Pre-Professional studies and this is her first All-Academic team selection.
Westendorf appeared in 17 of 18 matches for Notre Dame. The forward from Grayson, Georgia, tied for the team lead in assists (5) and was second in goals (4) and points (13) on the season. Two of her four goals on the year were game-winners, the first coming against Loyola Chicago in a 2-1 comeback win. The second came at home in a 2-1 win over No. 21 NC State.
Westendorf started 60 games over her Irish career and tallied 53 points in those games. She will graduate this spring with a degree in accountancy and this is her third All-ACC Academic Team selection.
