Irish Place Four On All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Freshman Sydney Bent, senior Ryann DeJarld, freshman Zoe Nunez and junior Jemma Yeadon were each selected to the 2018 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Volleyball Team, the conference announced this morning (Jan. 30).

DeJarld and Yeadon each earn the honor for the third consecutive year.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

ABOUT BENT
An aerospace engineering major in the College of Engineering, Bent finished third on the Irish with 270 kills en route to earning All-ACC Second Team and All-Freshman Team accolades. She notched 10+ kills on 13 occasions this season, including seven of the final eight contests and a 24-kill effort vs. NC State on November 9. Bent proved to be a reliable two-way player for Notre Dame as well, collecting 174 digs and 67 blocks in 97 sets this year.

ABOUT DEJARLD
A management consulting major in the Mendoza College of Business, DeJarld became the first player in program history to earn conference Defensive Player of the Year recognition when she was named the ACC’s top defender in 2018. This season, she paced the ACC with 532 digs and an average of 5.02 digs per set while anchoring an Irish defense that led the conference by limiting opponents to a .164 hitting percentage. In her senior season, DeJarld became the first Notre Dame player to break the 2,000-digs threshold, and finished with 2,340 career digs in her four seasons for the Irish. DeJarld also earned both AVCA Honorable Mention All-American, Second Team All-ACC and CoSIDA District 5 Second Team All-Academic honors for her performance on the court in 2018.

ABOUT NUNEZ
Nunez racked up 1,113 assists and an average of 10.60 assists per set in her freshman season as Notre Dame’s primary setter to earn All-ACC Second Team and All-Freshman Team honors. She collected 40+ assists in 16 matches this season, including a 64-assist effort on the road vs. Georgia Tech on September 30. She also notched 205 digs for the Irish defense.

ABOUT YEADON
A neuroscience and behavior major in the College of Science, Yeadon earned Second Team All-ACC accolades for the second consecutive season after posting 272 kills and a team-high 3.44 kills per set. Yeadon earned double digit kills in 15 contests this season, and nine of 13 ACC matches she participated in. The junior opened the 2018 season by earning Golden Dome Invitational Most Valuable Player honors after helping the Irish earn three sweeps and a tournament crown.
