Irish Find Success In The Pool And Classroom

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — After a successful first half of the season in the pool, the University of Notre Dame men’s and women’s swim and dive team were honored for their achievements in the classroom as well the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced Tuesday, January 22.

The women, who boast a 9-0-1 record in dual meets thus far in 2018-19 and a second-place finish at the Ohio State Fall Invitational earned a 3.42 team grade-point average for the fall term to receive Scholar All-America Status. The men recorded a 3.16 average through the fall of 2018 to earn honors.

“As always I am very proud of our swimmers & divers efforts in the classroom,” head coach Mike Litzinger said. “It speaks volumes about their discipline, dedication and pride to achieve at a high level as student athletes at Notre Dame.”

To be considered for CSCAA Scholar All-America a team must have a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The cumulative team GPA includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.

Since taking over the reigns as head coach in 2015, Litzinger’s teams have been honored on six occasions (spring 2016, fall 2016, spring 2017, fall 2017, spring 2018, fall 2018). The fall semester featured a record-setting 713 teams from 460 institutions recognized as Scholar All-America.
