NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Forward Cal Burke, goaltender Cale Morris and defenseman Bobby Nardella have each been selected to Phase One of the Hobey Baker Award’s fan ballot.

Awarded annually to college hockey’s top player, the Hobey Baker award includes candidates exhibiting the exceptional character traits of the award’s namesake, Hobey Baker, with consideration given to scholastic achievement and sportsmanship.
Morris, who was awarded the 2018 Mike Richter Award as college hockey’s top goaltender, was named a Top-10 Finalist for the Hobey Baker Award last season. Morris was the fourth player in Notre Dame history to be among the 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker, joining Anders Bjork (2017), David Brown (2007) and Dave Poulin (1982). Morris, a Larkspur, Colorado native, was also the first player from the Centennial State to play his way into the Hobey Top 10.
The Fan Balloting (Phase I) of the Hobey Baker award calendar will continue until March 10. On March 20, the Top 10 Finalists will be announced, at which time Phase II Fan Balloting will begin and run through March 31, 2019. The Hobey Hat Trick Finalist Announcement will be made on April 4.
The 2019 Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced from a field of three Hobey Hat Trick finalists on Friday, April 12, 2019 during the NCAA Frozen Four Championship in Buffalo, NY. The award ceremony will be held at HarborCenter and will be broadcast nationally on NHL Network and streamed live at hobeybaker.com.
The Fighting Irish hit the road this weekend for a two-game series versus Wisconsin. Game one will be played at 9 p.m. ET on Friday, Jan. 18 at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin. The series will then shift to the United Center in Chicago for a 7:30 p.m. ET game on Sunday, Jan. 20 (tickets). Game one will be televised on ESPNU, while game two will broadcast by the Big Ten Network.
Cal Burke — As a Junior
- Scored a third-period hat trick to lift Notre Dame to a 6-6 tie in the season opener versus Mercyhurst (Oct. 12).
- It was his second career hat trick as he became the first Irish player with multiple career hat tricks since Anders Lee had two (Oct. 8, 2010 and Oct. 1, 2011).
- Had a career-high five point game in Notre Dame’s 8-2 win at Omaha on two goals and a career-high three assists (Oct. 20).
- One of his goals in that win over the Mavericks was his first career shorthanded tally.
- Had a goal and two assists for a three-point game in Notre Dame’s 6-2 win at Michigan (Nov. 10).
- Scored the overtime, game-winning goal against Northern Michigan to lift the Irish to a the 2-1 victory (Nov. 27).
- Scored his third consecutive game-winning goal in the 5-1 win over RPI (Nov. 30).
- Named one of 17 nominees for the 2019 Hockey Humanitarian Award, presented annually to college hockey’s finest citizen (Jan. 10, 2019).
Cale Morris — As a Junior
- Posted a 22-save shutout over Providence to lead the Irish to the 2018 Ice Breaker championship (Oct. 13).
- Stopped 31 of the 33 shots he faced in Notre Dame’s 8-2 win at Omaha (Oct. 20).
- Made 38 saves to lead Notre Dame to a 2-1 win over seventh-ranked Ohio State (Nov. 3), helping to secure Coach Jackson’s 300th career victory at Notre Dame.
- Helped Notre Dame to a weekend sweep at Michigan State (Nov. 16-17) by stopping 55 of the 57 shots he faced for a .965 save percentage.
- Stopped 36 of the 37 shots he faced in Notre Dame’s 5-1 win over RPI and recorded his second career assist on Dylan Malmquist’s goal.
- Recorded a season-high 44 saves in Notre Dame’s 5-4 win at Penn State (Dec. 7), including 18 in the third period to preserve the win.
- Posted a 20-save shutout over Boston College in Notre Dame’s 4-0 victory (Dec. 31).
Bobby Nardella — As a Senior
- Named an alternate captain prior to the start of the season.
- Opened the year with a career-high three assists versus Mercyhurst in Notre Dame’s 6-6 tie (Oct. 12).
- Sealed the Ice breaker championship with Notre Dame’s third goal in the 3-0 win over then #4/5 Providence (Oct. 13).
- Had a career-high five points in Notre Dame’s 8-2 win at Omaha on two goals and three assists.
- One of his goals came as the Irish were killing off a 5-on-3 Omaha power play for his first career shorthanded goal.
- Had a pair of assists to help the Irish to a 5-1 win over RPI (Nov. 30).
