Emma Albrecht Leads Irish In Opening Round Of Schooner Classic

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Fighting Irish opened play at the 2018 Schooner Fall Classic by shooting a 291 to sit in a tie for 11th at the Belmar Golf Club (par 71/ 6,063 yards).
 
Senior Emma Albrecht led the Irish with an even par 71. She opened the day with a pair of birdies on the first and second holes. She then had 14 pars and two bogeys to finish tied for 22nd with two rounds remaining.
 
Freshman Claire Albrecht and senior Isabella DiLisio turned in two-over par 73s. Albrecht had a steady day for the Irish that included 17 pars to go along with a double at the par-4 14th. DiLisio ended the day with a birdie on the par-5 18th to to get a shot back for the Irish.
 
Senior Maddie Rose Hamilton and sophomore Abby Heck each had opening round 74s to also score for the Irish. Hamilton was six over at the turn but rallied to post an impressive three-under par 32 on the back that included birdies at the 11th, 12th and 14th holes. Heck opened the day with 15 straight birdies before a trio of bogeys moved her to a 74.  
 
Alabama and Texas share the round one lead after each posting a 272, while Baylor is third (278). On the individual leader board, Alabama’s Lauren Stephenson and Jiwon Jeon as well as Texas’ Sara Kouskova, Wisconsin’s Aya Johnson and Texas A&M’s Amber Park each posted opening round 66s to share the 18-hole lead.
 
Notre Dame’s second round tee times will begin at 11:30 a.m. ET. At 291, the Irish are just five strokes out of sixth place on a very tight team leader board.

  • The Irish are playing in the Schooner Fall Classic for a fifth consecutive season.
  • Last season, the Irish tied for sixth by shooting an 854 (294-282-278) at the par 71 course with the final round 278 marking the second-lowest team round in the Irish records book.
  • In last season’s second round, then junior Maddie Rose Hamilton fired a six-under par 65 for the lowest round in program history.
