No. 10 Seminoles down Irish, 4-0

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — After three and a half weeks between home games, the Notre Dame women’s soccer team (5-6, 1-2) returned to Alumni Stadium Thursday night to take on No. 10 Florida State (9-2-1, 2-2). Florida State opened the scoring early and kept the offensive pressure up for most of the game en route to a 4-0 win.

How it Happened

Early on, the Irish packed it in defensively and the Seminoles controlled a majority of the possession. Florida State sent a number of balls into the box early but the Irish defense was able to send them back out.

In the 13th minute, the Noles converted on a play started at the midfield from Deyna Castellanos. She played a ball up the right side to Yujie Zhao who sent a cross into the box. Kaycie Tillman was first to the ball and volleyed the cross into the net for the first goal of the game.

The Seminoles increased their lead in the 24th minute off a similar play. Anna Patten played the ball up the right side into the attacking third before sending a cross towards the top of the box. The ball bounced a few times until Castellanos took a one-touch strike to the top corner for the goal.

Notre Dame’s best chance of the first half came in the 31st minute as Sabrina Flores took the ball up for the Irish. Flores sent a through ball up to Jennifer Westendorf as she made a run into the box. Westendorf had just the keeper to beat and her shot had a ton of pace behind it and it rang off the bar and out of the box.

In the second half, the Seminoles added two more goals towards the later part of the half to close out the 4-0 results.
