WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team notched a fifth-place finish at the OTC Collegiate on Tuesday. The Irish fired off a final round score of 276 (-4) to earn a tournament total score of 829 (-11), just two strokes off a third place showing.
Furthermore, for the second time in three tournaments, a freshman led all Irish golfers. Andrew O’Leary shot under-par all three rounds (68-69-69) to earn a 12th place finish at 206 (-4). The Norfolk, Massachusetts, native also bested his previous tournament low score by eight strokes.
“Andrew has the mindset and attitude to be successful at the highest level and that showed this week,” Notre Dame head coach John Handrigan stated. “To lead this strong team as a freshman is impressive.”
FINAL ROUND
O’Leary played a nearly clean round with only one bogey to go with his two birdies on holes four and 13, thus shooting a 69 (-1) on the day.
The best final rounds went to Davis Chatfield and Miguel Delgado, who each carded a 68 (-2) on Tuesday. In addition, both golfers finished under par for a tournament for the first time this year, with Delgado carding a 207 (-3), while Chatfield collected a 208 (-2).
Hunter Ostrom’s 71 (+1) was the final score which counted to Notre Dame’s team round. The junior finished with a 212 (+2).

Next for Notre Dame men’s golf is their classic fall staple – The Fighting Irish Classic at the Warren Golf Course. The two-day home tournament will take place from Oct. 7-8 and is free to all fans. The tournament will get underway with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. ET on Oct. 7, followed by a traditional start at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 8.
“Excited to have our home tournament the following week with a strong field of 14 other teams coming to South Bend,” Handrigan added. “It’ll provide a great opportunity to bounce back and play our best.”
