Irish End Opening Day in Top-Five at OTC Collegiate

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team sit in the top-five at the Old Town Club Collegiate after the opening two rounds on Monday. The Irish shot a 280 (E) in the morning’s opening round, followed by a 273 (-7) in the second round, to move up two spots to fifth place.

Freshman Andrew O’Leary posted two rounds in the 60’s to lead the Irish today, thus entering Tuesday’s final round at three-under par, which is good for 12th place.

FIRST ROUND
O’Leary led the charge with a season low score of 68 (-2), posting four birdies for the round. Hunter Ostrom played a consistent round, with one birdie and bogey on each the front and the back to card an even-par, 70.

Miguel Delgado was poised for a huge round, tallying four birdies on the front nine to get to four-under at the turn. Yet, Delgado struggled on the par-3, 11th, before tacking on two more bogeys to finish five-over on the back-nine, thus one-over on the round.

Also, finishing one-over for the round and thus counting his score was Davis Chatfield. The sophomore shot two-over on the front, but then went one-under on the back.

SECOND ROUND
O’Leary remained poised with a 69 (-1) to move his overall score to three-under par. O’Leary recorded a bogey-free back-nine, tacking on four more birdies for the day.

Delgado once again started on fire on the front-nine, earning four straight birdies on holes 2-5. However, bogeys on four of the next eight holes caused a hiccup for the round before Delgado rallied to card a 68 (-2). Delgado thus lowered his overall score to one-under par.

Davis Lamb bounced back after not counting his first-round score to posting the lowest on the team in round two. Lamb notched five birdies on the round to enter the clubhouse with a 67 (-3), dropping his overall score to one-over par.

Chatfield rounded out the team scoring with a 69 (-1), moving to even-par on the tournament.
