Irish Cap First Fall Weekend At TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas — The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team played its first action of the 2018 fall campaign over the weekend, competing at the Big 5 Challenge, hosted by TCU.

The highlights for the Irish included Cameron Corse and Zoe Spence advancing to championship singles matches. The teams battled rain throughout the weekend, with matches moving back-and-forth from indoor to outdoor courts.

Day One
Notre Dame competed only in doubles action on the first day. Corse and Spence secured a 6-4 victory over Kansas, as did Bess Waldram and Ally Bojczuk.

Day Two
Friday action was incredibly successful for the Irish in singles action, with the squad posting a 7-1 record for the day. Spence was a straight-set winner, as was Corse, Chong, Waldram and Zoe Taylor. Ally Bojczuk won a battle (5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (12)), as did Maeve Koscielski (5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (9)). Waldram and Bojczuk secured the lone doubles win of the day with a 7-6 win over a duo from Missouri.

Day Three
Notre Dame posted a 4-4 singles record on Saturday. Taylor secured a straight-set win over Arizona State, while Spence, Corse and Broda all won in third set super tiebreaks. The Irish were unable to play any doubles matches due to rain.

Corse and Spence both fell in championships singles matches. Corse lose to Georgia’s Alee Clayton (6-1, 6-2) while Spence fell to Texas A&M’s Jessica Anzo (7-6 (5), 6-4).

In other action, Bojczuk, Broda and Koscielski were all singles winners, while doubles was again cancelled due to rain.
