Bazos (BAYzose) is one of 17 players that comprise the 2018 Greece National Team roster for the WBSC Super 6 tournament. This will mark the second major international tournament appearance for Bazos in as many years, after she made her debut with Greece at the 2017 Women’s Softball European Championship in Bollate, Italy. For just the second time in a tournament that dates back to 1979, the Greek squad cracked the final six teams in Europe with a sixth-place finish out of 23 entries last summer.

Bazos closed the 2017 Women’s Softball European Championship among Greece’s top players on offense. She batted .310 in 11 starts, adding 10 runs, one double, seven RBI, three stolen bases and a .375 on-base percentage at the plate for the Hellas. Bazos led all Greek hitters in both runs scored and stolen bases during the tournament, placing second in total hits (nine) and third in RBI.

Bazos is the latest Notre Dame player to compete and train at the international level, with the bulk of prior international experience by Irish players as part of the United States National Team system. Past Notre Dame softball international highlights include Lizzy Lemire (red), Jen Sharron and Jarrah Myers (blue) combining to appear in the USA Softball Shootout, U.S. Cup, Canada Cup and Pan Am Qualifier as members of the red and blue Team USA squads in 2001.

In a career-high 53 games (47 starts) during her sophomore season for Notre Dame in 2018, Bazos batted .316 with 36 hits, 13 RBI, a .360 on-base percentage and 23 runs scored. The Pound Ridge, New York, native added 37 putouts and an assist for a .974 fielding percentage in the Irish outfield.

Greece opens play on Sept. 18 at 3:30 local time in Hoofddorp against Great Britain. The Hellas are scheduled to lock up with the Czech Republic at the same time on Sept. 19. Greece and Russia collide on Sept. 20 at 10:30 a.m., with the final pool round games against host the Netherlands set for 10:30 a.m. and versus Italy at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 21. Based on standings following pool play, the championship round will be held on Sept. 22.
