Irish Place Seventh At Minnesota Invitational

WOODBURY, Minn. — The Notre Dame women’s golf team concluded play at the Minnesota Invitational, shooting a final round 295 to place seventh in the 15-team field at the Prestwick Golf Club (par 72/ 6,479 yards) on Tuesday afternoon.

Sisters Claire and Emma Albrecht carded even par 72s to lead the Irish over Tuesday’s final 18 holes of play. Overall, Claire Albrecht (75-72-72=219) tied for 14th to lead Notre Dame in her first career tournament. In three rounds of play she played the par fours at even par, which tied for the second best mark in the 84-player field.

“We were shooting for a better finish overall but we have lots of positive takeaways and things to build on,” head coach Susan Holt said. “We’re really pleased with the solid steady play of freshman Claire Albrecht. She has transitioned well into the college game. Everyone had at least one good round, we just needed to make more putts and capitalize on our good shots. We will get back on campus and continue to improve and we’re already excited to get ready for Oklahoma in a few weeks.”

Emma Albrecht (73-75-72=220) tied for 17th after her final round 72. Maddie Rose Hamilton (76-72-75=223) and Abby Heck (73-76-76=225) also scored for the Irish on Tuesday, while Isabella DiLisio (71-76-78=225) shot a final round 78. Hamilton finished the tournament with 41 pars, which tied for the second most pars in the field.

San Jose State (282-287-291=860) won the event, besting second place Virginia Tech (283-290-299=872) by 12 shots. San Jose State’s Natasha Andrea Oon captured medalist honors at nine-under par (67-70-70=207).

In head-to-head scoring, Notre Dame picked up wins over Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, North Texas, Rutgers, San Francisco, Minnesota and South Dakota State.
