DeJarld & Niego Named To AVCA All-Region Team

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Senior Ryann DeJarld and freshman Charley Niego were each named to the AVCA All-East Coast Region team for the 2018 campaign. Both earned honorable mention accolades.

ABOUT DEJARLD
DeJarld became the first player in program history to earn conference Defensive Player of the Year recognition last month when she was named the ACC’s top defender. In 2018, she paced the ACC with 532 digs and an average of 5.02 digs per set while anchoring an Irish defense that led the conference by limiting opponents to a .164 hitting percentage. Earlier this season, DeJarld became the first Notre Dame player to break the 2,000-digs threshold, and her 2,340 career digs rank third among active NCAA players. She also earned both Second Team All-ACC and CoSIDA District 5 Second Team All-Academic honors last month.

ABOUT NIEGO
Niego led the Irish attack with 339 kills and finished second to DeJarld with 307 digs in her freshman season en route to earning Second Team All-ACC honors. The Chicago, Illinois, native notched double-doubles in 12 of 18 conference contests in 2018, including a 16 kill, 29 dig effort at NC State on September 23. Niego became a force for the Irish attack down the stretch, recording double digit kills in the final eight matches of the season.
