Martinez vs. NC State

Martinez Selected to U-20 Women's National Team

NOTRE DAME, Indiana – Freshman defender Brianna Martinez was selected as one of 20 players for the U-20 Women’s National Team for the upcoming 2018 Women’s Nike International Friendlies.

Martinez is coming off a superb freshman season for the Irish. She started 16 of 17 games during her first collegiate season. She was one of six freshmen to start this season and one of two (Brooke VanDyck) to start 10+ games.

She played all 90 minutes in seven games, including the entire game in the 1-0 road win over Wake Forest. Martinez was ranked No. 33 by TopDrawer Soccer in their midseason top-100 freshman list.

Martinez joins the long list of Notre Dame student-athletes to be selected for women’s national team competitions and camps. Following the end of last season, Sandra Yu was invited to the U-23 WNT training camp.

This year’s tournament will feature three teams – France and China PR along with the USA. The U.S. will take on France on Dec. 7 and China PR on Dec. 9, with both games set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET. China will face France on Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. ET.
