Competitor Names Head Coach Litzinger Coach Of The Month

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Notre Dame’s swimming and diving head coach Mike Litzinger has been announced Competitor’s Coach of the Month for the team’s success in October. Posting an undefeated record of 5-0-1, the women’s team has recorded their best start to the season since 2016-17. 

The team opened their season in Bloomington, Indiana, where they defeated Kentucky and Missouri and tied the number six ranked Indiana team. Then, at Georgia Tech, the women defeated both Georgia Tech and Miami in their Atlantic Coast Conference opener. Hosting their first meet of the season, the team beat Purdue last Friday to finish their October competition.

The men have also posted two straight wins, defeating the Yellow Jackets in Atlanta, Georgia, before returning to Notre Dame to beat the Boilermakers.

As of October 30, six Irish swimmers rank in the top-15 in the nation for their respective events and the women’s 200 medley relay team is in the top-10. Zach Yeadon boasts the most top-15 times of any Notre Dame representative (1st, 1,650 free; 4th, 1,000 free; 5th, 500 free; 12th, 200 free), while Marci Barta (8th, 400 IM; 11th, 100 IM; 13th, 200 IM) and Lindsay Stone (3rd, 1,650 free; 15th, 1,000 free) also hold multiple top-15 national finishes. Abbie Dolan (9th, 200 free), Bayley Stewart (12th, 200 back) and Rachel Wittmer (13th, 100 IM) also hold some of the best times in the NCAA thus far in 2018-19.

The Irish return home this weekend for a two-day meet. The meet will begin Friday, November 2, at 5 p.m. before resuming action Saturday, November 3, at 11 a.m.
