#23 Notre Dame And #6 Virginia Battle To 0-0 Draw

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – After a grueling 110 minutes, No. 23 Notre Dame (8-5-2, 3-3-1 ACC) was able to take a valuable point on the road against No. 6 Virginia (9-2-3, 3-2-2 ACC) with a 0-0 draw. The clean sheet is the fifth of the season for the Irish.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In a first half that saw few chances for either team, the best opportunity for the Fighting Irish came in the seventh minute from Aiden McFadden, who’s attempted lob from 14 yards out sailed over the crossbar. After a cagey 45 minutes, the match remained scoreless at the halftime break.

It looked as if Notre Dame drew first blood in the 60th minute after a long range effort from Thomas Ueland rebounded to Ian Aschieris, who put the ball in the back of the net. However, the goal was waved off due to the assistant ref flagging Aschieris offside..

With the scores level at the end of regulation, the game headed into overtime. Notre Dame was on the front foot and created a number of chances throughout the two overtime periods, but were able to convert any of its opportunities, ending the match in a draw.

HEAD COACH CHAD RILEY’S TAKE
