NOTRE DAME, Ind. — After a weekend road sweep at Omaha and a 3-0-1 start to the 2018-19 season, the Fighting Irish hockey team took over the No. 1 ranking in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls. 

Notre Dame received 28 first place votes in the USCHO.com poll and 17 first place votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine.    

At Omaha, the Irish posted wins of 4-1 and 8-2. In game one (Oct. 19), the line of Cam Morrison, Mike O’Leary and Michael Graham accounted for three goals and six points and Dylan St. Cyr stopped 20 of the 21 shots he faced to earn the win. Then in the game two victory to complete the sweep (Oct. 20), Cal Burke, Dylan Malmquist, Bobby Nardella and Joe Wegwerth each had two goals. Burke and Nardella each also added three assists for a five-point night.  
 
On the season, Nardella is tied for the NCAA lead with 10 points on three goals and seven assists. Burke also is tied for the NCAA lead with five goals.
 
The Fighting Irish were last ranked No. 1 in the USCHO.com poll on Feb. 12 of last season, which also marked the last time the Irish had the No. 1 ranking in both polls. Notre Dame was last No. 1 in the USA Today/USAHM poll on March 26 of last season.
