MARTINEZ, VANDYCK NAMED TO TOP-100 FRESHMAN LIST
This past week, TopDrawerSoccer released it’s midseason Top-100 Freshman list and the Irish had two players represented in Brianna Martinez (No. 36) and Brooke VanDyck (No. 92). Martinez has started all but one game for the Irish this season on the back line and has drawn the assignment of some of the top attackers in ACC play. She has played all 90 minutes six times this season, including all 90 minutes in the 1-0 road win over Wake Forest which was the second shutout of the season for the Irish. Martinez was matched up with Tziarra King in Notre Dame’s 2-1 win over No. 21 NC State. Martinez limited King to just two shots and none on target. VanDyck has started 10 games this season after forgoing her senior season at Penn High School to join the Irish early. She leads the freshman with five points on the season, including two goal which were both game-winners. VanDyck scored her first career goal in the season opening 3-1 win against Central Michigan. Her second goal came in the 1-0 road win over Wake Forest.–ND–
