Nov. 30, 2011

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Quinn Gleason and Julie Vrabel have each signed National Letters of Intent to attend the University of Notre Dame in the fall of 2012, Irish head coach Jay Louderback recently announced.

“We are very excited about the impact this year’s class can have on our future,” said Louderback. “Both Julie and Quinn not only have a chance to impact our singles lineup but also help bolster our doubles. Julie plays an all court game with the ability to hit with some power. She is very smart on the court and can adjust to all types of opponents. Quinn is very athletic and moves well especially forward. She has the game to finish a lot points at the net. Their competitive nature should fit well with our program.”

Vrabel, a native of Centreville, Va., comes to the Irish having earned national ranking each of her four years according to tennisrecruiting.net in each the fall, winter and spring seasons. While not competing with her high school team at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, Vrabel competed in several junior tournaments, including winning the 18s doubles title at the National Open as well as finishing second at the national winter championships in Arizona.

Along with the doubles success, she also placed fifth in singles at the National Open, while claiming the title of an L3 national 18s event. Along with her individual accomplishments, Vrabel also took part in a mixed doubles exhibition match in which she and her partner defeated a team anchored by Richey Reneberg who, in ’92, was part of the No. 1 ranked doubles team in the world.

Vrabel, a blue chip prospect, ranks as the top player in the class of 2012 from the state of Virginia, while ranking 26th overall and fifth out of the Middle Atlantic region. She finished with four wins against fellow blue-chip prospects in the class of `12, while also going 12-1 against five-star recruits and 8-1 against four-star players.
