PITTSBURGH – Freshman Nick Nemetz got Notre Dame off to a great start at the 2012 BIG EAST Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships by winning the individual title off the 3-meter board Friday evening at Trees Pool.

Nemetz posted a 325.15 off the high board to earn the title while also becoming the third different Irish diver in as many seasons to win the event. Nathan Geary posted meet-high honors in 2011 as Wes Villaflor did so in 2010. Even more, Nemetz is the only first-year diver in Notre Dame history to win a league crown.

Michael Kreft (311.35) was third overall and the consolation round saw Ryan Koter take ninth. Ted Wagner was 10th, Sean Rademaker placed 12th and John Andrade finished 14th.

Notre Dame shelved 60 points on the opening day of the league meet. Pittsburgh (42) is second and Louisville (12) is third.
