Nefve Named ACC Singles Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior captain Axel Nefve went a perfect 4-0 in the opening contests of Atlantic Coast Conference play last weekend and was rewarded by being named ACC Co-Singles Player of the Week alongside Louisville #1 Etienne Donnet.

Nefve began the weekend with a 6-4 doubles win against Georgia Tech before taking on the #12 ranked player in the country in Andres Martin. Nefve took control of the match from the very beginning and never looked back as he won in dominating fashion 6-2, 6-3.

On Sunday, Nefve and Matthew Che took down the #22 doubles team in the country representing the Clemson Tigers by a 6-3 score. Nefve followed up with a 7-5, 6-2 win against the Clemson #1 to wrap up his undefeated weekend.

Callaghan Family Head Coach Ryan Sachire had nothing but admiration for what he witnessed from his top player.

“Axel is is playing at an extremely high level right now.” Sachire said, “His performance against Georgia Tech in singles was one of the single greatest, if not the best performance I’ve ever seen in the Eck. And then to back it up against Clemson on Sunday and another very tough tennis player showed how focused and tough an out he is.”

This is the first singles award of the year but Nefve and doubles partner Che were named ACC Doubles Team of the Week in early February.
