SOUTH BEND, Ind. – After ending the nation’s longest home winning streak this weekend at Middle Tennessee State, the Irish tandem of Axel Nefve and Matthew Che were named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s doubles team of the week. It’s the first time the tandem has received the league’s team of the week award.
After the teams split #2 and #3 doubles, it was up to Nefve and Che to earn the point as they were taking on the #44 ranked doubles team in the country in Stijn Slump and Pavel Motl. The pair saved multiple match points before taking the match 7-6 (9).
Nefve followed up the doubles win with a ranked singles victory of #30 Stijn Slump 6-4, 6-1, as the Irish ended the Blue Raiders 34-match home winning streak.
The pair will return to the court Saturday at Eck Tennis Pavilion as the Irish will host Illinois at 4 p.m.
