Need To Know: Georgia Tech & Clemson

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The 26th-ranked University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team will wrap the regular season this weekend, looking to add two more wins to a recent 3-1 run when they face Georgia Tech and Clemson on the road.

On The Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech enters Friday’s match having lost eight straight matches. The Yellow Jackets are led in the rankings by Carlos Divar at No. 61, while Divar and Michael Kay rank at No. 17 in doubles.

On The Tigers

Clemson and Notre Dame will wrap up the regular season against each other on Sunday before ACC Championship play begins next week. The Tigers will face South Carolina on Friday to open the weekend, but are 2-4 so far in the month of April. Clemson’s Alex Favrot comes in at No. 66 in this week’s singles rankings, and Favrot and Simon Baudry rank 47th in the ITA doubles poll.

Last Time Out

Notre Dame closed out the home season last weekend, winning two out of three to finish play at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. The Irish opened the weekend with a 5-2 victory over Miami on Senior Day, winning the doubles point before taking four more points in singles. On Sunday, 13th-ranked Florida State edged the Irish in a 4-3 decision, and Notre Dame swept past Ball State 7-0 to cap the doubleheader.

Rankings Rundown

The Irish came in at No. 26 in this week’s Oracle/ITA Division I Men’s National Team Rankings, up two spots from last week. Junior Alex Lebedev came in at No. 42, while freshman Richard Ciamarra entered the singles rankings at No. 119. In doubles, senior Brendon Kempin and freshman Tristan McCormick re-entered the rankings at No. 49 after defeating No. 18 Christian Langmo and Adria Soriano of Miami on Friday and No. 86 Aziz Dougaz and Guy Iradukunda of Florida State on Sunday.
