Irish Hockey Signs Six During Early Signing Period

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Notre Dame hockey team has signed Tyler Carpenter, Ryan Helliwell, Zach Plucinski, Ryder Rolston, Landon Slaggert and Hunter Weiss to national letters of intent for the early signing period, Notre Dame head coach Jeff Jackson has announced.

The Tyler Carpenter File
Position: Forward
Height/Weight: 5-11/181 lbs.
Current Team: Chicago Steel (USHL)
Hometown: Palatine, Illinois

Carpenter is in his third USHL season, and first with the Chicago Steel. Before joining the Steel, Carpenter notched 18 goals and 37 points in two campaigns with the Omaha Lancers. The Palatine, Illinois, native also spent four seasons in the Chicago Mission AAA program, where he led the High Performance Hockey League in goals in 2016-17.

The Ryan Helliwell File
Position: Defenseman
Height/Weight: 6-1/174 lbs.
Current Team: Langley Rivermen (BCHL)
Hometown: Burnaby, British Columbia

Helliwell is skating in his second full season with the Langley Rivermen of the British Columbia Hockey League. The Burnaby, British Columbia, native helped Team British Columbia win gold at the 2017 WHL Cup. Helliwell also competed for Canada Black at the 2018 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

The Zach Plucinski File
Position: Defenseman
Height/Weight: 6-1/185 lbs.
Current Team: Omaha Lancers (USHL)
Hometown: Eagle River, Alaska

Plucinski is in his first full season with the Omaha Lancers after splitting time between Omaha and the Sioux City Musketeers in 2018-19. Before heading to the USHL, Plucinski skated for the Notre Dame Hounds of the Saskatchewan Midget Hockey League. In 2018, Plucinski helped Notre Dame win the Telus Cup and be crowned Canada’s midget hockey National Champion.

The Ryder Rolston File
Position: Forward
Height/Weight: 6-0/165 lbs.
Current Team: Waterloo Black Hawks (USHL)
Hometown: Birmingham, Michigan

Rolston is in his first season with the Waterloo Black Hawks after spending the past two years with USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program. Rolston racked up 50 goals and 30 assists in his two seasons with the NTDP. 

The Birmingham, Michigan, native is the son of former NHLer and Stanley Cup Champion Brian Rolston. Brian helped Lake Superior State win the 1992 NCAA National Championship under current Irish head coach Jeff Jackson.

The Landon Slaggert File
Position: Forward
Height/Weight: 6-0/183 lbs.
Current Team: U.S. National Under-18 Team (NTDP)
Hometown: South Bend, Indiana

Slaggert is in his second season with the NTDP after skating for the U.S. National Under-17 Team a season ago. Before joining the NTDP, Slaggert helped guide the Chicago Mission to the High Performance Major Bantam crown in 2017. The South Bend, Indiana, native is the brother of current Notre Dame sophomore forward Graham Slaggert and son of Irish associate head coach Andy Slaggert.

The Hunter Weiss File
Position: Defenseman
Height/Weight: 6-2/190 lbs.
Current Team: Madison Capitols (USHL)
Hometown: Lake Forest, Illinois

Weiss is in his first USHL season with the Madison Capitols after spending 2018-19 with the Chippewa Steel of the North American Hockey League. The Lake Forest, Illinois, native spent 2014-18 in the Chicago Mission AAA program and was named an International Silverstick Bantam AAA All Star in 2016.

The six join forward Grant Silianoff, who signed with the Fighting Irish last fall.

Hometown: Edina, Minnesota

Silianoff is in his second full season with Cedar Rapids after totaling 41 points (18G, 23A) in his first USHL campaign while being named to the league’s All-Rookie Second Team. Last December, Silianoff helped the U.S. Junior Select Team capture the 2018 World Junior A Challenge championship. He also competed for Team USA at the 2018 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup.
