March 19, 2003

The NCAA Fencing Championships at the Air Force Academy’s Cadet Field House have been postponed to Saturday and Sunday, March 22-23, due to severe weather conditions. The complete schedule of events follows below. The event originally had been slated for a four-day schedule (March 20-23), with the men’s competition now moving to the weekend schedule that will be expanded to daylong bouting (9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.).

The Academy continues at heightened security status and the event will be opened only to participants, officials, media representatives and people with a Department of Defense identification card.

Family members and other team supporters will be permitted to attend but they must contact their respective team to gain entrance to the Academy and the Championships. Media wishing to cover the event should contact the athletic media relations office at (719) 333-2313 to make arrangements for credentials and escorting.

Results will be available on the NCAA website (ncaasports.org) and the Air Force website (airforcesports.com) while the Notre Dame Sports Hotline will provide several updates on both days of competition (call 574-631-3000, then select option 8 and then 3).

Check back to und.com later in the week for more information on Notre Dame’s quest for the NCAA fencing title.
