National Junior Hockey Team To Be Introduced At NHL Game

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Unites States Hockey National Junior Team-which includes three current Notre Dame players-will be introduced between periods of Wednesday night’s New York Rangers-Los Angeles Kings hockey game (Dec. 15), which will be shown live on ESPN2 at 7:00 p.m. eastern.

The U.S. team is training in West Point, N.Y., in preparation for the World Junior Championship, which will be held Dec. 26-Jan. 4 in Skelleftea, Sweden. The tournament features the world’s top players who under the age of 20 in international competition.

Wednesday’s ceremony will hold special significance for each of the Notre Dame players. Sophomore left wing/center David Inman was selected by the Rangers in the second round of the 1999 National Hockey League draft while sophomore center Brett Henning is a native of nearby Huntington, N.Y. (on Long Island) and was a ninth-round draft-pick of the crosstown New York Islanders. Henning’s father Lorne played on four Stanley Cup championship teams with the Islanders and currently is their associate head coach. Irish freshman center Connor Dunlop also is the son of a former NHL player, as his father Blake played for the St. Louis Blues and three other NHL teams during his 11-year pro career.
