Murray & O’Brien Sweep ACC Fencers of the Week

NOTRE DAME, Indiana — The University of Notre Dame student-athletes Thomas Murray and Regina O’Brien were both named ACC Fencers of the Week after strong performances at the DeCicco Duals this past weekend.

O’Brien, a senior sabreur from Wellesley, Massachusetts, compiled a perfect 18-0 record throughout the first day of DeCicco on Saturday and helped the women’s sabre squad tally a 61-2 record through seven matches.

The 18 wins were a team high for the women and she helped the Irish finish 7-0 on the day, including three sweeps and a close 14-13 win over No. 9 Northwestern.

Murray, a junior foilist from Staten Island, New York, went 24-2 over the course of the weekend and appeared in 11 matches for the Irish. He went 14-2 and fenced in every match on day one and then finished the weekend with a 10-0 record on day two.

UP NEXT

The Irish will look to keep the momentum going from this past weekend when they travel to Evanston this weekend. The Irish will compete in the Northwestern Duals, which gets underway on Saturday, February 1.
