Murphy Earns Big East Player Of The Week Honors

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Big East recognized Notre Dame’s Troy Murphy as Player of the Week.

This is the second straight week that the sophomore forward earned the honor and the fourth time this season. In the past week, the sophomore led his team to three straight wins over Elon, St. Peter’s and Loyola Marymount. The three victories improved the team’s record to 9-5.

Murphy posted two double-doubles in last week’s games. Currently the sophomore averages around 23 points and 11 rebounds per game. In 42 career games, he has scored in double figures in all but one game.

The sophomore is currently ranked fourth in the country in scoring and ninth in the country in rebounds.

Also the sophomore was named a finalist for the John R. Wooden award, which recognizes the top male college basketball player in the country. The Wooden award is given in April.

The Irish return to action tomorrow against the Connecticut Huskies at Connecticut.
